What better way to further explore out current Unit of Inquiry than through hands-on, visuals connected to the World of Weather?!! Using a trick called Mystery Objects, the children spent a good amount of time thinking deeply through the art of observation and exploring. Each group of 5 was given an object to observe silently for 4 minutes. Then they moved into the discussion phase where they used the technique called Creative Questions, brainstorming as many as 12 questions to ask all about the same object. What could it all be about? What would happen if…? etc. The students then decided together which of the 12 questions would lend itself to the juiciest conversations. The last step was probably the most important one – what NEW ideas do you have as a result of talking in partners about the juiciest discussion question?? As explained in an earlier blog post, we also used artwork to inspire the children’s deep thinking.
